Maybe it’s just me, maybe it’s the time of year… All of a sudden I’m very aware of the change happening around me, and within. Even though I have been a student of change and have understood (in the abstract) that it is rarely linear or definitive, it has taken much more reflection to really understand this on a personal level. Hence, I’ve realised in the last little while that I’ve been completely wrong about it all this time. After the last 12-18 months or so I’ve finally understood in a very real way that it is sometimes bit by bit, and sometimes all at once - but definitely circular, repetitive, and often very hard-won. As it is unfolding, I’ve also been reminded that the process of unlearning, relearning, and then truly learning / embodying change is so satisfying. Almost like you can physically feel old neural pathways being unstitched, and new ones being laid down. I’m mostly talking about personal change - real insight, shifts and genuine change in behaviour or attitudes. Like it is all happening in slow motion and right before my eyes… But I can also see it happening in real time at a systems level. It may feel uncomfortable (individually and collectively) but the wheels are turning… and we are the better for it. What about you? What change are you grappling with? Despite the very tragic circumstances, it was lovely to celebrate such a vibrant life last week surrounded by friends and family.
